Environmental Coordinator Ontario Woodlands Operations
Resolute is seeking an individual hereafter referred to as the “Environmental Coordinator”, to assist our forest management team to primarily fulfill our obligations related to the Environmental Management System (EMS) on Sustainable Forest License (SFL) areas managed by Resolute and areas where the Company procures fiber in Northwestern Ontario.
Environmental Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the highest safety standards are met or exceeded in the application of duties.
- The Environmental Coordinator maintains Ontario Woodland’s ISO 14001:2015 certification program and ensures the EMS requirements are implemented and maintained in accordance with the standard.
- Conduct field audits of operations, documentation review and revision, and completion of monthly or other reporting.
- Participate in and conduct training on the EMS, including production of training material or production and revision of communication tools such as the Woodlands Environmental Handbook or other EMS communication documents.
- Advise Ontario Woodlands operational staff on how to fulfil requirements of the EMS, such as assistance understanding requirements, or to complete preventative and corrective action reports.
- Track monthly EMS metrics related to environmental performance and report as required.
- Advise Company Contractors related to the EMS requirements to ensure legal compliance and conformance to the certification standards.
- Ensure any required environmental permits are applied for and maintained.
- Maintain databases and the EMS system up to date.
- Maintain current awareness of legislative requirements to ensure the EMS is up to date and changes to compliance obligations are documented and communicated.
- Work effectively with auditors during internal and external certification audits to ensure certification is maintained.
- Conduct investigation, complete action plans and reporting for environmental incidents or to respond to and address audit findings.
- Other duties that support Ontario Woodlands may be assigned as needed.
- Provide documentation support related to other forestry certification programs such as various Chain of Custody certification programs, Sustainable Forestry Initiative® Forest Management and Fiber Sourcing, and Forest Stewardship Council® National Forest Stewardship Standard of Canada.
Ideal profile:
- Ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of proven forestry environmental certification experience.
- A degree in Forestry, Environmental Science or a directly related field.
- Being a Registered Professional Forester (R.P.F.) in good standing is an asset.
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English is an asset.
- Ability to work as part of a team, to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to change.
- Ability to work, including working alone, in the field to visit forest operations and conduct field audits.
- Valid drivers licence is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- In-depth knowledge of MS Office and solid computer skills.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent record keeping skills.
- The ideal candidate will possess the drive and passion to continuously improve upon the health and safety, efficiency, production, and environmental compliance targets for Ontario Woodlands.
- Willingness to travel 25% (Northwest Ontario)
