Manager, Canadian Taxation

The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Manager, Canadian Taxation. This job is full-time permanent.

The Canadian Taxation department is responsible for ensuring Canadian tax compliance and for sharing its expertise with all of Domtar’s internal departments. As such, the Taxation department plays an active role in reducing the Company’s overall tax burden and preparing the Canadian tax provision. 

  

Reporting to the Senior Director, Taxation, your main responsibility as Manager, Canadian Taxation, will be to manage the duties involved in Canadian tax compliance while ensuring that the company meets all of its tax obligations according to the laws in effect regarding corporate Canadian taxes and the company’s Canadian sales taxes.  

  

 Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities: 

  • Supervise the production of Canadian tax returns, analyze the tax components so as to identify risky fiscal positions and communicate the planning elements;
  • Plan, organize, lead and control with the assistance of the Senior Manager, Tax Projects the management of government audits related to Canadian corporate taxes and Canadian sales taxes (Canada-United States);
  • Offer taxation and Canadian sales tax support to all the company’s departments (Finance, Sales, Legal Services, etc.);
  • Ensure that tax compliance requirements are met for all companies comprising the group, with respect to Canadian sales taxes;

  

Key Skill Sets: 

  • You have experience in people management;
  • You are rigorous and have keen analytical and synthetical skills;
  • You are known as a person with great problem solving skills;
  • You have strong communications skills and are bilingual in both English* and French (written and spoken).

 

Qualifications: 

  • You hold a bachelor degree in accounting and a CA, CGA or CMA professional designation;
  • You hold a master degree in taxation or have completed the ICCA courses (In-Depth tax course);
  • You have more than 8 years of experience in taxation;
  • Worked at least 3 years in a large size company is an asset;
  • You demonstrate in-depth knowledge of US GAAP with regard to the recording of deferred income tax;
  • Your experience in research and development and sales tax is an asset;
  • You have the knowledge of the following software: Taxprep, Taxnet pro, Excel et Word;
