Reliability Engineer, Power Distribution

Resolute Forest Products' Calhoun mill, founded in 1954, is a leading producer of paper towel and tissue products for some of the largest retailers in the United States. With the recent expansion of its tissue operation at the Calhoun facility, along with additional manufacturing and converting facilities in Florida and Maryland, Resolute has created a competitive integrated tissue business that serves the North American market. In 2018, the company invested $20 million to build a new Tissue Distribution Center, further enhancing its capabilities and commitment to meeting the needs of its customers.

 

Our Calhoun location (in Tennessee) is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Reliability Engineer for Power Distribution.  You will be responsible to provide safe operation of your assigned mill equipment, to work in a safe and productive manner, and to maximize quality and production while minimizing unscheduled downtime.

Primary Purpose

The power distribution engineer recommends the upgrades and maintenance necessary to provide the level of electrical power system reliability expected at this site and monitors the health of the power distribution system and power measurement devices. This engineer obtains bids from suppliers to establish the financial and scheduled down time costs necessary to provide that expected reliability. Switching schedules are developed to allow the approved upgrade and maintenance work to be accomplished safely and within the allotted down time.

The engineer in this position serves as a significant resource with regard to “Work Arounds” and repairs when power distribution facilities are in a failed state or are damaged.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 Determine and suggest methods, equipment, and procedures necessary to provide the degree of electrical power system reliability necessary for efficient operation of the facility.  Secure, interface with and direct internal and external resources to implement maintenance plans. Document and direct the switching plan and procedures necessary to allow safe implementation of the procedures.

Establish costs and obtain funding to accomplish the procedures.  Maintain records of system maintenance and improvements for corporate and regulatory review.

 

Monitor the health of the power distribution system and power measurement devices. Execute a program to restore the electrical integrity of the power distribution system in the area of the failure using internal and external resources.

Develop a procedure that will allow safe restoration of power to undamaged areas while providing for safely isolating the faulted equipment.

Establish an “Electrically Safe Work Area” in which repairs can be accomplished, repairs that may be necessary following a significant power interruption

Survey the situation when equipment failure or damage causes a significant power interruption.

Works with Environmental department to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and standards. Able to access and retrieve information from the Environmental intranet site.

        

Knowledge and experience

BSEE or BSEET degree in with strong Power background with demonstrated technical skills or equivelent experience.

Computer skills such as CAD, XL, Word, Access, Easy Power.

Must be familiar with testing and repair methods of electrical generation and distribution equipment up to 161 Kvac and battery systems (UPS and station).

Three to five years of work experience in the heavy industry is preferred, specializing in power system maintenance.  This job requires significant theory application, data analysis skills and good team building skills.
