The location in Fort Mill, (South Carolina, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Director - Papermaking Optimization. This job is full-time permanent.
Domtar has a need for a Director - Papermaking Optimization within its Strategic Capital Organization. This is a remote-based role with varying potential combinations of work performed at Domtar project offices, Domtar manufacturing facilities, engineering contractor offices, and home-based.
Provide technical expertise to assist Domtar in becoming an industry leader in the packaging paper grades. This role will assist in developing front-end-loading (FEL) packages including specifications for new and modified paper machines, stock preparation, and OCC processing equipment. In addition, will work with equipment suppliers, engineering partners, and mill personnel throughout detailed design to install operable and reliable systems to ensure Domtar’s business objectives are achieved
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical expertise to mill conversion projects in the Packaging Group.
2. Provide technical support through detailed design, construction and start-up of mill conversion projects.
3. Work with OEM and Domtar resources to incorporate best practices to capital conversion projects that increase reliability and reduce capital and operational costs.
4. Lead company efforts to research and assess impact of new machine technology that is marketed by OEM suppliers for specific products Domtar manufactures.
5. Have ability to remotely monitor company machine operations with data historian tools (like PARCVIEW, ABB DCS, etc.) to provide historical data as needed to support recommendations.
6. Understand tools and methods utilized by CI driven efforts and be able to participate.
7. Assist in development of front-end-loading cost and schedule estimates for mill conversion projects
8. Provide input on equipment layout and P&ID development for mill conversion projects.
Key Qualifications:
Extensive practical field and/or design experience, minimum 10 years in an industrial paper environment. Extensive technical, networking and project experience. Good understanding of the basic principles of papermaking and paper chemistry. Persistent, independent and principled, innovative, objective, creative. Good communication skills and ability to work with others. Experience with FEL process in major capital projects such as mill conversion.
